Pro-Am 2009

What a weekend in California; Brad got his license, Jersey Streets decals were present on every car, and the phazing was of extraordinary magnitude. The Formula D Pro-Am was one of the greatest events I have ever attended in my 4 years of being involved in the drift scene – well organized with lots of awesome driving. Drivers came from Texas, Seattle, Canada, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Indiana. When the smoke cleared, 19 drivers would receive a 2010 license to compete in Formula D next year. We had a blast this past weekend, it was awesome hanging with old friends and making some new ones. It was nice to see the best grassroots drivers in the nation battle it out at The House of Drift. Nice to meet some west coast media guys: Antonio Alvendia from Motor Mavens is one of the nicest dudes around, giving everyone props for their dedication and traveling so far to chase down a dream.  Abbitt Wilkerson of AW Films, the child prodigy, so young and so talented, he is a force to be wrecking with next year in the film world.  Carlos from CTR Photography, super nice dude that covers the so-cal car scene. I met so many people I just cant remember at the moment due to jet lag. I’d like to thank John Shin from City Tire for being a big supporter of the grassroots scene and changing everyone’s tires at the event. Justin Pawlak for helping Stew, Roland, Brad and Derek get their cars to pass tech for competition. John Chase from DSTROYR, it was nice to finally meet you bro, we will rock your clothes till the death on the East Coast. To my homie Jarod DeAnda, thanks for plugging us on the loud speaker from time to time, wish would could have snagged some brews together. Congrats to all the drivers that came out and got their license, I hope you guys give the pros a run for their money next year. That about does it for me, Pro-Am is an awesome event that every grassroots drift fan should check out. I have some pictures below from my point and shoot but stay tuned for a ton of video as well as some photos from Greg V.

Photo Updates and Hyperfest Recap

_mg_7172

So it has been a busy few weeks between ECBII, Formula D, and Hyperfest. I have had my Formula D photos uploaded for a while now but have neglected to post them, so click here to visit the gallery.

Next order of business, Hyperfest. What an awesome event! You cannot go wrong with booze, fireworks, half-naked models, and drifting (on 3 different tracks!). Needless to say we are eager to attend again in 2010. Huge thanks to the Mishchief.tv crew for hosting us in Maryland on Friday night. Another thanks to Redline Designs for hooking us up with our badass new vinyls – keep an eye out for these to start showing up on drift cars all over the place! While on the subject of Jersey Streets exposure, Brian managed to impress Jarod DeAnda, voice of Formula D, with his taste for beer and drifting. Scroll through Jarod’s Hyperfest post to catch our plug on his blog!

And after you do that, you can of course check out the Hyperfest gallery for photos. We will have more to come (of women!) from Craig soon.

Also, I’ll be getting around to those ECBII Sunday photos now that I am no longer backlogged… I promise!

Formula Drift 2009 Round 3 at Wall Speedway, NJ

20090607-img_5713

New Jersey’s Wall Speedway hosted the third round of Formula Drift this past Saturday, and it was an amazing event! Specators of all ages lined the balconies as they watched the Falken Tires Team sweep the top three positions! As for me, cooking in the sun with long sleeves because sunscreen doesn’t work for me, Jersey Streets is proud to bring you photo coverage of this event from the in field!

Formula D ATL: Patrick Mordaunt Controversy

Courtesy of Wrecked Blog

Patrick Mordaunt, a privateer competitor in the FD series was disqualified from Round 2 last weekend prior to entering the top 8 after defeating Joon Maeng. Many fans were left disappointed as this came a year after Mordaunt took drifting heavyweight Vaughn Gittin Jr. into a one-more-time run in the top 16 of last season’s Atlanta round. Along with the disappoint came confusion behind the decision. Wrecked Magazine’s Blog made a post yesterday explaining the circumstances of the DQ under a new rule for 2009 related to tire hardness. Be sure to read up on some of the more insightful comments below the article.
